On the occasion of Independence Day, a total of 124 eligible prisoners in Madhya Pradesh will receive a reduction in their sentences as part of the state’s special remission process.
According to the announcement, 118 prisoners serving life sentences will be released early after being granted remission. The decision will provide these prisoners an opportunity to return to society and begin a new chapter of their lives.
In addition, 6 other eligible prisoners will receive special remission in their sentences. The remission has been granted in accordance with the applicable rules and eligibility criteria.
The move comes ahead of August 15, when the country celebrates Independence Day. Special remission of sentences on significant national occasions is intended to provide eligible prisoners an opportunity for rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
The release of the 118 life-term prisoners will be subject to the completion of the required legal and administrative formalities. Authorities will also ensure that only prisoners meeting the prescribed eligibility conditions benefit from the remission.
The decision highlights the importance of rehabilitation, reform and giving deserving prisoners an opportunity to rebuild their lives while maintaining the principles of justice and public safety.
